How will custom software help you?

Still not sure? Here are some advantages & disadvantages to custom development – if in doubt ask us and we can suggest the option that best suits your needs.

Custom Built Software

Advantages

  • The software is built to suit how your business works.
  • You have complete control over the software and can add new features or adjust existing ones as your business grows or strategy changes.
  • No ongoing license or subscription fees to use the software.
  • You own the software and all distribution rights, including resale to other interested parties.

Disadvantages

  • Custom software is not readily available like Off-the-Shelf Software; it needs to be developed first.
  • Changing your mind or adding new features can add costs and cause delivery delays.

Off-the-Shelf Software

Advantages

  • Once purchased, it is typically fast to get basic functionality in the software up and running.
  • The software may be used by peers in your particular industry.

Disadvantages

  • Customisations with the software may not be possible and where they are available, costs can far outweigh the initial purchase price.
  • Your business may need to adjust your current workflow to suit the way the software functions.
  • You may be up for expensive annual license, maintenance or subscription renewal fees.
  • You have no control over the vendor, including when updates, bug fixes and new features will be available or even if they will ever be available.
